I have never stayed at the WA Rome, but I would take that review with a big grain of salt: Besides the cleanliness issue (unforgivable if true but then again, no pictures or anything to really prove that claim) and rudeness/impoliteness by staff (again, unforgivable if true, but that is very subjective and the rest of the review would make me hesitant about that claim by the blogger) the rest is much rambling about nothing in my opinion: He is a diamond and complains about lack of diamond recognition and that he had to fight to receive an upgrade. Had he put in just a little research before booking, he would have known that WA pretty much gives out no benefits to diamonds and he isn't guaranteed any upgrade at all (he ends up being upgraded and still complains about just receiving a view upgrade). The next complaints are about a 5$ self-parking fee and a fee for indoor pool use, if he wasn't a diamond. Both those fees are clearly mentioned on their website and therefore would have been known if he had researched at least a bit. Last and major complain: The hotels location. Well, taking a look at google maps or something like this before booking might help avoid such problems.
Again, I completely understand if somebody hates the location or thinks a self-parking fee (or indoor pool use fee for non-status guests) is ridiculous or nickel&diming, but since those costs are clearly stated on their website, that is nothing I would stress that much.
Another big part of his criticism is the design and art and such, which is pretty much his personal opinion and even though I am not a fan of their style (like him), it all comes down to personal reference.

So when I read his list of complaints, I take his comments about hotel staff with a huge grain of salt because if a hotel guest complains to me about the art in the lobby (which often times posters here on FT raved about because they display some fine art according to said posters) and other stuff up to the location of the hotel, a manager can't really do anything about those things (even the choice of furniture or art in the end boils down to personal preference, you cant please everybody and his criticism was about the style, not quality ...). So any remark by the manager might be perceived as rude by that blogger, while it actually might have been a suitable/proper/adequate response. Since we weren't there, we don't know for sure and it might as well have been a snarky & impolite response by staff member and therefore not adequate. But the rest of the review would make me hesitant to shy away from the hotel just because of one review. Because if you go through this thread or TA reviews, I don't remember that being a common theme.
