Not that it contains anything new, but - as an Egypt-based subscriber to QR e-mailed updates/newsletters, etc - I have just received the following e-mail:
Fly Qatar Airways from Terminal 2
Dear valued subscriber,
We would like to inform you that effective 27 February 2017 all Qatar Airways flights will be operated out of Terminal 2 of the Cairo International Airport.
Please adjust your travel plans accordingly and arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure.
For queries and further information please contact our call centre at 19950.
We look forward to welcoming you on board.
Qatar Airways
I don't know where the 3 hours prior to departure has come from; that seems excessive.
One benefit of the move from CAI T1 to CAI T2 that may not have been highlighted in this thread until now is the likely reduction in time from touchdown to entering the terminal building.
With the vast majority of QR flights (at least in my experience) using runway 05R/23L the taxi time to T2 (as opposed to T1) will be reduced. Coupled with the current faffing around at T1 of positioning steps to the aircraft, boarding a bus, and driving to the terminal I estimate an overall time saving of at least 10 minutes.
It will be interesting to see how QR handle boarding of F passengers in future at T2. I have consistently refused to play their T1 game of being told to wait in the terminal until the last bus leaves for the aircraft (I'd far rather be sitting in my seat with a glass of champagne, as opposed to sitting on a hard plastic chair at the departure gate).
