As for 'no-same-airport-twice' on a bag tag it could be a soft block implemented by BA and others to prevent agents from doing tags that can't work in reality. I am living proof of that it can be done (and that is doesn't work once it is issued
I think it would have worked if you took a later flight back. But obviously the bag can't not leave the plane, it needs to get scanned and tracked..
