As a general matter, best to allow time to check receipts.
The other party called and was given the run around. The agent told them that they don't check fuel during the return and it's the renter's responsibility to tell them and show proof that fuel was topped off. After some back and forth Avis agreed to refund the charges. From the tone of their voice when they were telling me how the call went, it sounded like it took some fighting before Avis agreed to refund the charge.
I just got off the phone with Avis a couple minutes ago. After asking for specific gas station that I used, distance, address and all and how much I spent on topping off, they told me that it takes 48 hours for my rental to close out but they put a note in the rental agreement to refund the fuel charge tomorrow when my contract closes out and that no further action is required on my end. I'm going to keep my eye out for this one.
Both stories doesn't line up with one another and we were obviously told different stories. I wasn't about to call since my time fighting was not worth the $14 waiting on the phone but after I spoke to the other party, I wasn't going to let myself get scammed.
