Air NZ domestic tickets can be booked in "flexitime" for $30 more than a seat only fare so you can move to an earlier or later flight on the same route on the same day. So you could book an AKL-ZQN flight with decent safety margin, and if your flight arrives on-time or early you can change to an earlier flight if there are seats available.
