Plus one major benefit that I'd forgo by removing my MPC number is op-up. There are some long haul flights I take at a specific time every year where I get pretty reliable op up from Y+ to J.
Those op-up is the main reason I fiddle around so much to try to keep my tier status whereas it's far easier and cheaper to just let it drop.
removing MPC number in lounge does not guarantee to work, but it works most of the time.
In order to maximise your benefit and still have MPC number removed, you will need to be at the nearest lounge next to boarding gate, and have your number removed after boarding started.
Personally, I would think a roll over of any over credited club points to next year will benefit both member and the airline.
