This has multiple benefits - you get a full 12 months for the number of points you have accumulated, and secondly, it may even help you in the following year to reach ahead get to one of the additional benefit levels that the Club now has. I got to the 1600 point level by doing this when my actual number of points flown in the membership year is between 1400-1500...
Removing MPC number in lounge tends to credit anyway, many other people have reported this.

Plus one major benefit that I'd forgo by removing my MPC number is op-up. There are some long haul flights I take at a specific time every year where I get pretty reliable op up from Y+ to J.

Those op-up is the main reason I fiddle around so much to try to keep my tier status whereas it's far easier and cheaper to just let it drop.
