Actually, I'm not sure we can use the work "will" yet, if you re-read what they told him. It actually says:

We have not implemented companion benefits when traveling on a mileage-award upgrade or on a systemwide upgrade. The only new thing introduced on Jan. 1
And it directly contradicts their own internal document:


SO, yet to be determined what's delayed vs. what was incorrect in that document.
