Can I ask a question here of the ORC experts? I was on Flight 733 DTW-LAX today 12/26 which was diverted into DEN because of a mechanical problem with the plane. DL had no other flights available and I finally gave up on any chance of the original flight getting out and took a United flight back to LAX, which I had booked as a backup as soon as the pilot announced the diversion. (It's currently been over 8 hours since landing and the DL plane is still in Denver!)
The rep I spoke with tonight said Delta could process a partial refund, but she didn't know how much it would be since Delta flew me part of the way to LA -- odd, seems sort of like a full refund is in order for all the headache. But even odder, she said that if I requested a refund, I would have a deduction of MQM and Skymiles since my flight would be reset as DTW-DEN. MQD maybe I can understand, but MQM? I got on a plane in Detroit and the reason I didn't make it to LAX on DL was their responsibility, not mine.
Anyone ever heard of this refund vs. miles forced choice?
By the way, very happy to have arrived safe and sound in LA, which is far more important than anything miles-related. Thx.
