On examination it seems that freshly chewed gum had been placed on the footrest of the seat in front and the footrest then rotated so that it was not visible.
The FAs were great and tried their best to remove the gum, but it was not possible to remove completely.
Aren't there some wonderful people out there??
I can't help with the investigation into the offending chewer, but I believe putting your jeans in the freezer is an excellent way to get the gum off.
