LAX - the LCC invasion

Seems like LAX has really turned into the lcc airport lately. I just read in the LA Times that AirTran will add 2 daily non stops LAX-DFW soon using 717's (adding to their flights to ATL on A320's, soon to be 737's). This on top of HP adding all sorts of non stops willy nilly, and Frontier turning LAX into a "focus city". Plus of course WN and their plethora of non-stops

Why do you think all of a sudden these lcc's have focused their energies on adding all these non-stops out of LAX?? Do you think it's because of the majors having so many monetary problems, the lcc's are swooping in to steal their business??
