I know a great number of people who have run into this problem. American Express is not very pro-active in checking to see if you already have a Sky Miles account or more likely they get a spiff for opening another account. I don't think there is a really good (easy) way to fix the problem. I would think that the best way is to merge the Sky Miles accounts with Delta. I think it might be best to have the NEW account be the surviving number so that Amex does not have a problem with crediting the miles correctly. Hope that helps.
Thanks. If worst comes to worst, I'll do that. It's kind of a drag, though, because I have my Skymiles account linked with a lot of other accounts (Uber, SPG, Concur, others I'm probably forgetting). Hopefully once I actually have the card in hand I'll be able to reach an AmEx rep than can fix this.
