It's funny this thread even exists. Starbucks has fooled a generation (maybe two!) into thinking that over-roasted beans make good coffee. Which makes perfect sense when it's being mixed with lots of milk and syrups in Starbucks' drinks. But now people have come to think that type of over-roasted coffee is superior to a lighter roast. Probably had something to do with teenagers thinking the strong taste meant it had more caffeine too.

Plain Starbucks coffee is fine, but given a choice I'd probably take Folger's every time, especially at the lower price. If I'm having a double-shot caramel macchiatto whatever, I prefer the stronger bitter Starbucks roast.
I do not think starbucks is bad coffe but I do think you pay more for the brand than for the quality of the coffee, as comparable coffee shops in my country sell coffee at a lower price that is at least as good as starbucks if not better.
