In October, here was my experience on the Tube and bus as a contactless payment method, not talking about using card at ticket machines:
  • Android Pay using Citibank Prestige: Worked.
  • Android Pay Using Chase Sapphire Reserve: Did not Work
  • Amex Delta Platinum Card With Contactless (had to specially request from Amex): worked at merchants, but not on Tube.

Other than the novelty of these methods, might as well purchase an Oyster card. The 5 GBP deposit for the card is refundable - and you can now get that refund from the ticket machines in the Tube stations. I don't get the point - you get back your 5 GBP deposit, and the card is then dead. But Tfl does not get the card back to reuse.
