But keep in mind that you won't get any signup bonus miles or (I think) the $100 statement credit (for buying, for example, a $50 Delta e-gift card online!) if you upgrade, only if you open a new account. If the personal Delta Platinum card you're interested in, there's currently (through 2/1/2017) a 70k signup bonus for $3k spend in the first 3 months.
