It seems TSA is giving prefential treatment to pre check pax at TBIT/EWR/etc: you get a yellow card and keep your shoes on and laptop/liquids stay in your bag.
The TBIT security lines can be notoriously long even if there is a Premium Lane. The TSAPRE lane at T4 can be empty and the process is quick so that method is indeed time saving
