Can redeposit fee be waived if trip is canceled due to medical?
So my wife and I had redeemed 90k UA miles for a babymoon to OGG next month. Earlier this week we learned from the doctor of some complications that preclude my wife from being able to fly for the remainder of her pregnancy. Everyone's fine now, she just can't be on an airplane over the Pacific hours away from the nearest hospital. The trip was booked under two PNRs (one PNR both of us in each direction), and we're general members, so this sounds like $400 in redeposit fees.
My question is: does anyone here know if United will waive or refund the redeposit fee when the redeposit is due to medical reasons with documentation? I recall the old CO waived most of our change fees when we had to do a last minute date change to a cash ticket due to medical five years ago...not that it applies today.
If not, I have trip cancellation protection from the card I paid the taxes/fees on, but I'm curious if I can get this handled directly through UA...
