The only travel date errors I've experienced on AA.com are my own.
I'm thinking OP entered the correct dates, then saw the tabs for other days +/-3 with lower prices, clicked on one of them and booked without noticing. I've done it myself.
This is most likely human error - rather than system error, unfortunately.
AA has always been really good about corrected my errors, fee-free, if notified quickly.
