Yup, KEF sounds extremely ambitious to me. Tiny non-Schengen departure lounge, already bursting at peak times. Many US-bound flights taking off at the same time. Almost exclusively connecting passengers on tight connections.
It's true that it's bursting at the seams and there is a pent-up need for a huge expansion just to comfortably accommodate current passenger numbers. That makes this preclearance talk even stranger because it would be adding massive expense on top of what is already needed.
