Yes JFK stop has to be less then 24hours.
And LAX-MBJ-LAX actually exist. Once weekly AA2599/8 red eye from LAX on Friday and return on Saturday. Unfortunately AA doesn't fly to PTY from LAX, that would add quite a lot of distance.
