Do United waive change fees in the case of death of a family member? (In my case I might have to turn a multi-city into a one-way, which is significantly cheaper. Since I'm essentially going to have to travel RTW now, I can't buy the whole new ticket that I'd need from United.)

(Just to clarify: I want to cancel the two outbound journeys and keep the return. Buying just the return today costs about 1/2 the price of the original ticket.)
