Hi,
I am posting my experience assuming it may help someone. We checked in chicago for ORD-PVG-NRT flight through China Eastern MU 718. They issued boarding passes and checked luggage upto shanghai. The flight was on time and we reached 90 minutes EARLY. Yes, you read right early. We arrived by 5:50 pm and went straight to immigration and used the TWOV line for 144 to 24 hours. It was smooth. You just have to show your confirmed tickets. You are fine if you have it on phone. You dont need boarding pass for next flight. By 7:15 we cleared immigration and customs, stored our luggage in departure area and were in a taxi. One thing to note is if you take taxi take it outside the airport and there is a line. Dont solicit taxi from an individual. We arrived at our hotel, Grand Hyatt Shanghai by 8:05. Taxi meter was 185 Yuan. The hotel was fantastic. We than checked in and stored our luggage in our room on 75th floor. Wife wanted to see the SWFC tower next door. We went up. It was amazing view. We than walked a little on the Financial district. Later went to our room. NExt day visited bund, Yu Garden,Nanjing Square and check out of hotel by 1:30. Took cab to airport collected our luggage and got boarding passes for tokyo. Boared the flight which was about an hour late. Everything worked great. While coming back also we had booked hotel, Renaissance by yu garden. Excellent hotel, got upgraded to suite FOR FREE. We like to arrive the airport 3 hours before departure time and we were so glad about it. We started from our hotel 4 hours before departure time. went to maglev station, took the maglev which was a 7 minute ride. 431 kph per hour. For some reasons there was a big rush for checkin. By the time we reached the boarding gate it was 45 minutes before departure. BUT the flight was 90 minutes late. They boarded us on time and we waited inside the flight for 90 mins. Overall We were very pleased with china eastern flight. The money we saved, we splurged on great hotels and food.
