Was supposed to fly AA 2489 DFW-LAX connecting to AA 83 to AKL on sunday. Delayed, then delayed more, then more, finally delayed past MCT. While standing at gate for AA flight i see QF8 gate right next to us getting staffed. Walk over, ask if they have any J seats (SWU had cleared LAX-AKL). They say yes, they had some misconnects so J opening up (an hour earlier in Admiral's Club i had asked if they could move us to that flight and she showed me her screen showing J0). Sprint back to Admirals Club, get them to move my wife and me onto QF8 in J to SYD and then onto QF 141 to AKL. A little more flying, and in to AKL a little later than the AA flight, if we make connection, but we got to fly J on QF for the first time and first time on the A380, so that was fun. As it turns out, AA83 got delayed 2 hours and we would have made the flight no problem, but that's okay, was fun to fly QF.

So, sometimes all those delays work out for you. 2 years ago DFW-NRT (connecting to CGK flight) got delayed and I ended up flying CX most of the way, that was fun too.
