There's a great chance that either date you select you'll have a pretty high shot of getting the upgrades for all four. It has nothing to do with it being midday but rather that you're looking to travel on dates that are holidays and most already want to be at their destination for. If anything you might have a harder time with 12/31 flights that arrive into LAX with a good amount of time for people to be where they need to be to ring in the new year.
