A few hours later, I now realize that my booking has suddenly been changed to HKG-LAX-JFK on 19 Sept (Mon). I did not request this change and have not received any notification from AA.

Has anyone experienced like this? Did AA change my flight because the flight is overbooked? Who should I contact to discuss re-booking options? Anything else I should note?

Many thanks.
It looks like the HKG-DFW flight was cancelled on 9/18 so you were auto-rebooked to HKG-LAX-JFK a day later. If that doesn't work, by all means call AA. I'd research other options before calling to suggest to the AAgent. If there's space you should be able to get on one of CX's nonstops from HKG-JFK/EWR.
