How much of a credit history does chase require before issuing credit.
For the MP Explorer 6 months (with a secured credit card elsewhere the entire time) wasn't enough history, but I don't know about other cards and/or how being an AU helps and/or how different the rules are for the IHG card.

(Following the advice of another FT'er I went for an AMEX everyday instead, and will continue building history from there.)
