Yes it is still an ok place to stay. Neighborhood leaves something to be desired if you want to grab food etc. but if not needed or you can do with the limited selection, you will be fine. Fairly easy walk from Bridgeport Skytrain station (though I wouldn't do that with other than a rollerboard)--also close to airport for a relatively cheap cab ride.
