it was ticket the day when there is a typhoon.hit.hk and they were busy. there is no point to argue as long as i can lock in the fare as aa and ba had up the price already.
What about changing the date with AA's RTW desk to avoid this CX approach? I think that can be done. American may first try to refer you to CX but try to persuade them by saying any oneworld carrier can ticket the fare and that you've heard their RTW desk is the best.
