Another concern is about checked bags. Normally, when landing at any US airport from an international flight, checked bags need to be picked up, then re-checked once you clear customs. At normal times of the day, there would be an AA re-check desk right at the end of the customs hall, but with the late hour I don't know if AA will have an agent on duty.
