You know, it is "iconic" in that it was the "first" beach (have no idea what that means, I just read it recently). I grew up on the south shore of Boston, and Revere is on the north...they were rivals in that "my" beach (Nantasket) had an amusement park (think Coney Island), and Revere had an amusement park...now neither does. They were both in blue collar areas, but the Atlantic Ocean hitting the shore...it is a beach. I just saw some lovely pictures of Revere where they had an annual summer sand-sculpting contest - it looked fine.
I don't think you are prepared to go to Ipswich to Crane's Beach, or down the Cape to other, better beaches, so yes, Revere would be fine.
Does this mean you are considering the Hampton at Logan rather than the Hilton in Dedham? I can't tell you how much happier you will be (correct me if I'm wrong...you are NOT renting a car?)
You will be able to get to Revere Beach, as well as Downtown Boston, in no time at all (taking the hotel's shuttle to the T).
But of course, if your points can stretch to downtown Boston, that would of course be the most preferable alternative, but if they can't...and if it were me...I would choose the Hampton at Logan every time over being stuck in the suburbs without a car.
That area near Logan is ugly, industrial, but it is much more convenient than Dedham without a car.
