I wrote the hotel to ask about upgrade possibilities ( a seaview from a garden view) and got back a polite response "you can enjoy all benefits of Starwood Gold membership upon arrival in our reception and upon availability as well."

As we are going off season I was hoping for a bit more reassurance.

Can anyone share their Gold experience at this property?
This isn't particularly helpful, but in my experience it really depends on how busy they are. I have been here many times and it varies so much. e.g. - I got no upgrade an an elite when it was very busy (Mid August), but got an amazing upgrade from a base, no frills points room to an Infinity Suite with an adjoining room for family when it was moderately busy in July. I think I was Platinum both times and got the impression that the hotel were reasonably generous when accommodating upgrade requests providing they had the capacity. (I had requested Suite Night Awards for the Infinity Suite. I have received upgrades to suites on at least two other stays without using SNAs.)

If you are going in May for a 2 night stay, you'll probably be in a good position to score an upgrade. In May, an upgrade to a room with an infinity pool may not be much use as the pools are unheated and the weather may not be warm enough to take advantage of it. Enjoy the property. It truly is a wonderful hotel in a wonderful area.
