I finally ticketed with BA, but when I wanted to re-route my Europe/Middle East segments I ran into the same problem with them. I finally got that sorted - see posts in the linked thread from about October 2015 onwards.

Now that the relevant rule has been simplified we hopefully will not have these types of problems.
