EDIT: The more I think about it, this may be the most troubling of the recent moves. It's an obvious cash grab, and not well considered. To be sure, JetSmarter's profit margin on this addition is near 100%, but to bring in what would be considered significant revenue at this price would require hundreds or thousands of new "social" members, thus greatly diminishing availability and the overall value and appeal of the more expensive tiers. I'd like to know what's going on behind the scenes there, but I suspect it's some level of panic.
Just got the email recently about the "social membership" as well....and had the same concerns/thoughts as you. Seems like this is going to cannabalise revenue from the top/expensive memberships, and also alienate those who already paid a lot of money for their yearly dues. Plus, it does seem like this is going to just lead to a lot of unhappy customers - both those who enter at the "social" level and find out that it's not all it's advertised to be and those who already locked in their yearly fee who now have to compete with a whole new host of members using the platform.
