FWIW, we've really never understood why Avis and other rental agencies even offer fixed-rate accounts: when the retail rates are high, that means demand is high, so Avis is throwing money away when they could easily rent out their cars for much more. When retail rates are low, savvy travelers will simply leave off the corporate code (or use a different, percentage-based one) and pay the lower retail rate. It's lose-lose for Avis. But it's win-win for us consumers, so I won't question it
too loudly.
