Not sure where you got the impression that a misconnect would automatically entitle to an upgrade... It may happen in the US, but it's definitely
not any sort of rule or habit in Europe, as already pointed by
msm2000uk.
On the other hand, if this was a European flight and you arrived at destination 5 hours later, then you could have claimed compensation under the EU regulations. No other airline would do this outside of the European context, so I'm not sure why you would want to blame QR... Delays happen all the time.
