I'll be spending a couple of weeks there in the new Year, attending a course. Accomodation is all taken care of (nothing special, more's the pity )

Can anyone let me know of what there is to do in the vicinity? I've read a little in the guidebooks, and it sounds nice and upscale.

I'm particularly interested in any restaurant recommendations, and tips to spend any free time I find myself with.

Oh and - what's the weather going to be like in early January?
