One thing that was also mentioned by the Delta rep was that both LA O&D and connecting Delta One passengers are not happy with the split LAX-LHR operation. So moving to T2 will allow DL to co-locate with Virgin Atlantic. Air side bus from T3 to T2 is a lot better than doing the land side walk from T5 to T2.

I also under the impression (though the Delta rep never confirmed it) that during the transition period, DL passengers (not just those flying to LHR) will be able to use the T2 Virgin Lounge, which will appease some people.
Well, I would generally prefer to walk landside versus taking an airport bus, unless of course it's blizzarding during the (uncovered, unsheltered, outdoor) walk.
