Edit-- I looked at my mom's account and it still doesn't say "Citi AA cardmember". I called Citi to see when that would happen, and the agent said that the Citi account will be available tomorrow, but Citi will report to AA when the card is activated. But he said he doesn't know when AA will recognize my mom as a Citi AA cardmember.
The timing is the same no matter which AA benefit triggered by the Citi AA Plat you want: 10% rebate, free checked bag, etc.
The question has come up for the free checked bag benefit many times, and IIRC the consensus is that it takes about a week or so after you're approved for the card before AA recognizes that fact (and starts giving you the associated benefits).
