Get out of the States more often. I'd say that about 90% of the hotels I stay in have at least a VCR, but more often a DVD player (although I know of one that has a Philips CD-i player in each room - what a waste).
I once stayed in a "Motel" in Brazil - You don't want to know what the amenities were.</font>
I think that I get out of the states a fair amount. In the past year, I have stayed at:
Westin Palace Madrid
Park Hyatt Villa Magna Madrid
Best Western Atlantico Madrid
Marriott London (forget which one)
Hilton Rome Airport
Hilton Athens
Hotel D'Europe Nice
Westin Europa & Regina Venice
I do not recall any of these hotels having VCRs or DVD players in the room. I was not looking for one, and if it was well hidden, I could have missed it. However, one was not placed next to the TV, where I would assume it would be if available.
