For context, the bed at my primary house has a clearance of 10" and the height from floor to top of the mattress is 23". I am going for the same type of look/size. My 4 wheeled Heys 21" spinner fits easily under it (9" depth). Most carry on's would fit under a 10" clearance I figure.
But my problem is with larger bags. I don't own a checked size bag and all of my friends have older ones, like those soft Samsonite ones. Nothing from this century. I have looked on various websites for depths but I just don't trust what the manufacturer says. I'm sure a lot of my guests check bags and it would be nice if they fit under.
Can any of you who own 26" or 28" spinners (I figure those are the most common these days, right?) get out a measuring tape and tell me the ACTUAL depth including wheels? Hard side and soft side types both welcome as I'm sure I will get both. Would they fit under a bed with 10" clearance? 11"? I don't really want to go any higher than that but will go to 11" if it will make the difference of a checked bag fitting or not.
Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.
Edit: just noticed the typo in my title. Should be bags, not bahs. Oops, hopefully a mod will notice and fix it for me.
My 31" (78 cm including wheels and handle) big bag won't fit it needs a 13" (33 cm) clearance to store flat on the floor. Some Rimovas require a 15" (38 cm) clearance to fit under the bed. Regarding carry on's some carry on's in the duffel form factor require a 12" (30.5 cm) clearance to fit easily!
If you make it 13" clearance the vast majority of bags will fit under there!
But for maximum convenience I recommend you invest in one of these luggage racks:

Makes it easy for the guests to reach their stuff without having to bend down all the way to the floor!
