Was originally on an award ticket flying in J on JL going into YVR, but my flight from BKK arrived slightly early so I changed my ticket at the transfer desk to take a direct flight into LAX instead. Disappointed to have been on the old 777 but getting home 7 hours earlier when I needed to be back on a plane to the east coast that night was worth the sacrifice.
I went with the western menu because I wasn't sure of the Japanese menu and I kind of wished I'd done the Japanese menu instead because my seat mate ordered it and it looked delicious AND beautifully presented.
In any case, the shrimp cocktail starter was good, and the "seasonal greens" with the Japanese soy vinagrette was tasty.
Unfortunately the Jibu-ni chicken was a miss. The chicken itself had no real flavor and a soggy texture so I had to slather it in sauce to make it edible. The rice was way sticky and the ume-fu cake was just strange. Blech.
At least the sundae was a nice palate cleanser! ^
Pros:
-the presentation looks much better with the white linens
-the butter is presented nicely rather than being wrapped in foil
-the appetizer is plated tastefully and attractively
-proper ramekin used
Cons:
-the salad looks woefully small, like the same size as domestic F
-chicken doesn't look particularly filling or appetizing
-napkin/cutlery wrapped with cheap looking paper wrapper, ugh
-cheap/ugly salt and pepper sleeve
