No, HGH is not a feasible alternative for Shanghai residents. The flight leaves HGH at 1130AM, which means get to airport by 930AM. It's 2h drive from Xujiahui. Or 1h train from Hongqiao Station + 30min taxi from Hangzhou East to the airport. So you're looking at an early morning departure from Shanghai.
To put into context, driving from Hongqiao Station to PVG is approximately 1h drive.
