My understanding is that United is not allowed to undercut the fares Qantas sets.

I also read about a week ago that Singapore Airlines wants to fly the LAX->SYD route. The newspaper articles quotes an Australian government minister as saying that he would be negotiating with the Singapore government about it, that there may be capacity for another airline.

I wish they wish allow the market to decide. That is the beauty of capitalism.
