So early last year I changed my AA Platinum to a DC. They did issue a new card with a different number, but it showed up in my Citi online profile with the same credit limit. I Then applied for a new Platinum and was approved and received the bonus after the required spend, so in my case downgrading did Not reset the 18 month clock.
