Ah, I see where my disconnect is. I live in a multi-unit dwelling so no one actually rings the doorbell of my actual unit. And I'm not going to upgrade the building intercom system for the building's front door.
That said, my building would love to have the ability to let the UPS delivery person leave packages inside the foyer.

I had a loft in the city that had one of those keypads at the front door that would call your cell phone. The UPS guy would call and I could be anywhere in the world and buzz him into the secure foyer to drop off a package. Worked well.
I suppose you could argue that I wouldn't really know it was the UPS guy since I couldn't see him but in the world of things I care about, that was pretty low-risk and he was only getting as far as the foyer.
