Not that I have found in published to consumer AAdvantage rules but see post #1112 above. See also the wiki on 3rd zone transits, and recognize that some fares have a max permitted mileage. There certainly are limits to the freedom to construct creative routings.

DL is much more explicit. Domestic awards max at 3 segments; international at 4. More than that creates a fare break and demands mileage for a second award.
