The reason your told not to eat chicken is that it gets contaminated at the Slaughter factory. Somewhere around 97% of chicken meat sold in US supermarkets is contaminated with gut bacteria.
If the chicken is slaughtered in a way that does not contaminant it with material from the intestinal tract it is just as safe as any other meat.
