I use these as well and whole heartedly endorse them. It's not clear if you and your friends are staying somewhere other than their home or in their home. I agree with others, if your friend lets you use the washer, they will let you use their detergent. I routinely offer our washer and dryer to house guests along with all the ancillary products.
