In addition to the excellent suggestions previously posted in this thread:

New Hope, Pennsylvania, is a quaint town (albeit somewhat touristy) near the point along the Delaware River where George Washington made his famous crossing.

Have fun at Dorney Amusement Park and Whitewater Kingdom near Allentown.
