Welcome to FlyerTalk, Jeff!
I have had okay experience with ATA. My expectations are not high.
I have enjoyed Frontier more, as far as lowfare airlines go. I have nothing but praise for them -- their 757s seem a tad roomier and their FAs and ground people seem very nice.
Once when I got to DIA, they handed me a UA ticket because their flight was going to be late or had been cancelled -- even though they had another flight later on they didn't even ask me to wait.
I am glad that ATA is here, though, because they are a real carrier with competitive offerings through Chicago, and they help keep prices lower.
